FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask about Voice Smart. If yours isn't here, we're happy to help.

Privacy

Does my audio get uploaded anywhere?

No. Voice Smart records and transcribes on your iPhone using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your audio and transcripts are stored on your phone and are only sent somewhere when you tap Share or Export.

There are no Voice Smart servers, no accounts and no analytics in the app.

Do I need an account?

No. Open the app and record. Purchases are handled by Apple and tied to your Apple Account, so there's nothing to sign up for.

What data do you collect?

The app collects none. It has no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and on the App Store it's listed as Data Not Collected.

This website counts anonymous page views with Vercel Web Analytics, without cookies. That's separate from the app.

If you've chosen to share crash data with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports to us. Read the full Privacy Policy for details.

Recording and transcription

Does it work offline?

Recording always works, online or not. Transcription needs your language's speech model, which your iPhone downloads from Apple once. After that, everything works in airplane mode.

If you record before the model is ready, your audio is saved and transcribed automatically as soon as the download finishes.

How accurate is it?

It uses Apple's latest on-device speech recognition, and it's very good with clear audio. Keep your iPhone close to the speaker; echo and background noise lower accuracy.

Names and technical terms can come out wrong. Tap Edit to fix any line; the timestamps stay in place.

Which languages are supported?

The languages Apple's on-device speech recognition supports on your iPhone, which covers dozens of languages and regional variants. You pick one in the app, and the app shows exactly which are available on your phone.

The app itself is in English and Spanish.

How long can I record?

Hours, as long as your iPhone has space. The app warns you when free space drops below 500 MB, and stops and saves the recording at 100 MB so nothing is lost.

What if I get a call, or the app closes mid-recording?

Calls, Siri and alarms pause the recording, and it picks up again when they end. Audio is written to storage every few seconds, so even if the app is closed or your phone restarts, the recording is recovered the next time you open Voice Smart.

Can I transcribe files I already have?

Yes. Tap Import, pick an audio file from Files, choose its language and tap Transcribe. Imports count toward the free weekly limit like recordings do.

Plans and purchases

What's free?

Unlimited recording and playback, and 3 transcripts a week. The week resets every Monday. You can read the first 10 minutes of each, copy it and share it as text.

A transcription only counts once it succeeds. Failed attempts and retries never use one up.

What happens when I reach the free limit?

Nothing is lost. Your audio is saved and always playable, and the transcript is still made. You'll see the first part of it, and upgrading reveals the rest instantly.

What does Pro add?

Unlimited transcripts of any length, export to PDF, text, subtitles (.srt) and audio, and sharing without the "Transcribed with Voice Smart" line. Annual, Monthly and Lifetime all unlock the same features.

How do I cancel, or get a refund?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Cancel anytime in your iPhone's Settings, under your name and then Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

I got a new iPhone. How do I get Pro back?

Sign in with the same Apple Account, open Voice Smart, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases.

Devices

What do I need?

An iPhone running iOS 26 or later.

Is there an iPad, Mac or Android version?

Not yet. Voice Smart is made for iPhone first.
